Low-cost device for avoiding bulk susceptibility artifacts in chemical-selective fat saturation MR of the head and neck.

چکیده
An inexpensive, commercially available travel pillow filled with a suspension of attapulgite provided good suppression of inhomogeneous chemical-selective fat saturation in imaging of the head and neck. This device is assembled from readily available materials at a low cost and compares favorably with a commercially available perfluorochemical-filled device.

Fat-suppression failure artifacts simulating pathology on frequency-selective fat-suppression MR images of the head and neck.
PURPOSE To describe fat-suppression failure artifacts and to caution against their misinterpretation. METHOD Magnetic-susceptibility artifacts were studied in a phantom model and the results were compared to MR images obtained in clinical cases. FINDINGS Artifacts manifested themselves as regions of focal fat-suppression failure and appeared as bright signals without geometric distortions a...
متن کاملNon-uniformity of Clinical Head, Head and Neck, and Body Coils in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Introduction Signal intensity uniformity in a magnetic resonance (MR) image indicates how well the MR imaging (MRI) system represents an object. One of the major sources of image non-uniformity in high-field MRI scanners is inhomogeneity of radio-frequency coil. The aim of this study was to investigate non-uniformity in head, head and neck, and body coils and compare the obtained results to det...
متن کاملNovel application of T1-weighted BLADE sequences with fat suppression compared to TSE in contrast-enhanced T1-weighted imaging of the neck: cutting-edge images?
PURPOSE To evaluate if the use of BLADE sequences might overcome some limitations of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the extracranial head and neck, which is a diagnostically challenging area with a variety of artifacts and a broad spectrum of potential lesions. MATERIALS AND METHODS After informed consent and Institutional Review Board approval, two different BLADE sequences with (BLADE ...
متن کاملIn vivo intravascular MR imaging: transvenous technique for arterial wall imaging.
PURPOSE To determine, in vivo, the potential for transvenous magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of the arterial wall and to assess appropriate MR pulse sequences for this method. MATERIALS AND METHODS MR imaging was performed on 19 vessels (right renal artery, N = 9; left renal artery N = 2; external iliac artery, N = 4; abdominal aorta, N = 4) in nine swine. The animals were either low-density ...
متن کاملBLADE for T1-weighted contrast with spectral fat suppression: two different approaches for head and neck imaging
INTRODUCTION: Up to now, Periodically Rotated Overlapping ParallEL Lines with Enhanced Reconstruction (PROPELLER) or BLADE imaging has been applied to reduce motion artifacts mainly in T2-weighted imaging. Using an inversion pulse at the beginning of the sequence results in T1-weighted contrast – this technique has been evaluated for T1-weighted imaging in the brain after application of contras...
